Wayfaring Stranger

Title: Wayfaring Stranger

Composer: Anonymous

Description: Wayfaring Stranger is an 18th century American folk song about a person wandering in a strange land. It was often associated with enslaved people escaping the bonds of slavery. Many people use this song at modern funerals, as the lyrics can be interpreted as going home to Heaven to be with lost loved ones.

This arrangement is for vocalist and orchestra. It begins with the principle Viola setting a comforting groove. The vocalist joins two bars later. It builds gradually until a powerful final chorus, then has a soothing, whisper quiet ending.
